Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety and Depression
I’m Diona Breese, Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I have been practicing in the Clearwater area since 1992. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help my patients learn tools to conquer anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties.
I believe that effective CBT does two main things. First, it gives you a sense of relief during the treatment itself. Second, it gives individuals and families tools they can use on their own, long after treatment has ended.
My mission is to provide quality mental health services to those seeking to heal, improve, and change what they can through psychotherapy. I will help guide you through the CBT and therapy process you need to achieve happiness, growth, and self-fulfillment.
How I can help you through tough times
Whether I work with individuals, couples or families, I find it’s most useful to combine different treatment approaches. I am most heavily influenced by evidenced based, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT helps you to understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected. It also helps you break negative thought and behavior patterns that you have created and gotten used to over time.
In addition, I am a certified Parenting Coordinator. I have completed the training and mentoring for Florida Supreme Court Mediator. This specialty gives me a unique perspective when helping families pre and post-divorce with improving communication, negotiating and resolving conflict. It also allows me to help parents who are going through a divorce stay child-focused. Combined, this gives parents the best chance of reducing the amount of damage caused to the child and having an amicable divorce.
An experienced therapist for you and your family
I received my master’s in clinical psychology from Marshall University. Prior to starting my private practice in 1998, I worked as a lead therapist in a private psychiatric hospital, a Regional Director for a long-term care behavioral health company, a Clinical and Training Director for a partial hospital program, and as an adjunct professor at St. Pete College.
However, in my almost 30 years of practice I have learned that the client-therapist relationship is at the core of what helps people get better. The famous psychologist, Carl Rogers, PhD, said it best:
“In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat or cure or change this person? Now I would phrase the question this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?”
Some things to know about me
I have been with my husband for 36 years. We have two children, ages 25 and 20. My marriage and family have shaped me as a counselor just as much as all of my formal education and professional experiences.
Please contact me to set up your first appointment. I look forward to meeting you and helping you succeed in this part of your journey.
